Copper Collection – Thank you

The recent copper collection in the school raised €807.15! Thanks to all who contributed. The funds will be put to good use restoring the outside areas of the school as described in the previous news item (Volunteers still sought to help over the summer!!!)

In case anyone was wondering the weight of the coppers was 97 Kg!

Ms Cremmin’s class collected the most by weight and as a result were the lucky winners of the Pizza lunch. All other classes also got Crisps and jellies to thank them for their hard efforts. The parents association would like to thank Pappa John’s Pizza in Fermoy whose chef came in early to ensure the Pizza was ready on time.

Have a great summer holiday.

Outdoor Revival

The outdoor areas of the school are the last remaining elements to be completed after the school extension. With the sudden apparition of summer these basketball last few weeks, it is time to address them! As you will be aware the playing field on the Fermoy side of the school has been unavailable to the children since the building work finished. this was due to the poor state in which the builders left it.

The Board of management and parents association together will undertake to return this area to a flat grass area where the children will be able (weather permitting) to play.french skipping

As well as restoring this area The parents association will also improve the other outdoor areas of the school. The intention is to do this with the help of voluntary input from the parents wherever possible.

Of course none of this comes for free, we have looked at the costings for each project and the estimates are as follows:skipping

1 – Get marking done on the playground for games and exercises – € 300

2 – Purchase playground accessories (skipping ropes, moveable basketball ring etc) – €400

raised beds3 – Provide a raised bed & seating in the muddy section at the back of the playground – €600

4 – Restore the playing field to level grass budget figure €5,000 made up of:adventure trail

  • 5 days of digger & driver hire
  • purchase of drainage pipe & drainage stone
  • obtaining and transporting 10 loads of top soil
  • Grass Seed & Fertiliserhopscotch

If there are any parents who can provide any materials or services for the above at a competitive price we would be very happy to hear from them. Also we would like to hear form any parents who would be available to volunteer for some Saturday morning labouring over the summer months. please forward your contact details to Les Mahon on 086 856 6045 as we will not be able to communicate via the school during the holidays. It is our intention to undertake as much work as possible and to have at least the playing field restored before the start of the next school year.
